VISITAS GUIADAS

Guided tours by the Agencia Puro Souvenir. A collaboration between Patricia Zaragozí and Paula Valero.
The aim of these guided tours of the Agencia Puro Souvenir is to make people reflect about and challenge our own opinions of living side by side with migrant citizens. Starting with a voluntary self-introduction of the people in these situations, the idea is to generate itineraries called “guided tours” using the route as a narrative structure and a way of passing through and interpreting other territories of the living urban organism we neutralise.
The basis of this proposal is anchored in the need to change opinions, roles and spaces and thus establish a common ground to question the perception of immigration as a problem so that we can perceive it as a reality we must accept and with which we must build bridges for constant dialogue.
In order to obtain a critical evaluation about xenophobia and create warm relationships among the people invited on the tour and the guides, we chose a positive stance: by means of gestures of hospitality typical of the guides’ culture or their customs, in meals or socialisation occasions. In this way we boosted the guides’ dignity: it was they who invited us under their own identity. Each tour strove to turn us into accomplices and participants, creating a place where we could stop and really listen. The tours included places that were closely linked to their lives in the city, maintaining a life space: they had an identity and a nature of their own.
